With the information given, it doesn't sound like they were communicating very well or worked together often enough.

Yes, that is what it looks like. Most police motor officers (in CA anyway)rarely do funeral escorts. They depend on thier lights, sirens, and badge to protect them. Most of the time, it does. Usually they don't know what they are really doing, and don't recieve training for it. A VME rookie who has completed their training rides, knows more about performing funeral escorts than the average police motor officer in CA.

Not just that but he was going way too fast for what he was doing.. Even though they were leap frogging.. He probably was either selected or volunteered to be part of the escorting party, and ( he ) knowing that other fellow motor officers were in the procession tried to show off his motorcycle funeral skills. He thought this was going to be a peice of cake not realizing how dangerous this job really is.

Ron and Ray your both correct on their statement, but Ray hits the nail on the head. Police motor officer may think they know how to escort a funeral procession but, in reality they really don't know how. It's not a every day job for them day after day after day.
